The Movies

Unexpected things happen in your life all the time. I wonder why we keep calling them unexpected. Maybe that's just code for really good. Or really bad. I had no idea that I would be witness to the kind of tragedies this world has seen in my life. I'm sure you feel the same. When it's good, my mother taught me to give God the glory. Only problem is that when it's bad, we learned to give ourselves the blame. I'm not sure that's the most productive way to go.

The year after Nashville Star was most certainly good.... so thank ya, Jesus! I got a call from Paramount Pictures. Seems they were fans of reality television. They saw the show and thought that I might work out nicely in a movie they were doing. I mean, I wasn't an actor, but I figured I'll just see how far into the meeting I can go without the casting folks finding me out. I go in to meet the director and it's Cameron Crowe -- the director of Say Anything and Almost Famous. WHAT??!?! He wants me?!!
By the end of the meeting, he still wanted me. I guess you really can fool all of the people some of the time. Maybe that's good enough.

Long story short, Elizabethtown was my first movie. I did a few more and some TV shows. Really fun work and a shot in the arm for my insatiable thirst for attention. It'd be awesome to be Johnny Depp. But being Johnny Nobody is still pretty cool.
