From the bedroom of my first Hollywood apartment, when I'd wake up I could see the Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign. Some people think that's cool, some think it's maybe vain or something. I still think it's kind of cool. That sign has witnessed and recounted story after story, tragic and triumphant for two lifetimes. I remember coming here from Nashville and thinking that life here would be like the movies. Well, we'll see about that.

I lost my girl almost as soon as I got here and so I started writing songs. I made a record with a bunch of Hollywood guys. It was kind of a pop rock record 'cause, when in Rome, you know. But I met the most interesting people I've ever known. That's still true. I got a band and we played a whole lot of shows to not that many people. But every show was gonna be the show, so I put my back into every one.
